About the author
Sue Watson was a journalist on women’s magazines and national newspapers before leaving it all behind for a career in TV. As a producer with the BBC she worked on garden makeovers, kitchen takeovers and daytime sofas – all the time making copious notes so that one day she might escape to the country and turn it all into a book.
After much deliberation and copious consumption of cake, Sue eventually left her life in TV to write. After a very successful debut novel, Fat Girls and Fairy Cakes Sue signed with Bookouture.

MY REVIEW:
Firstly I have a very eclectic reading taste and although I love a good thriller, I also read more light hearted fiction verociously and as such Sue is one my fave authors in the genre. After the darkness of a good murder mystery I love nothing better than to curl up with some thing that will leave me feeling warm and fuzzy inside and boy does this one do just that! I first stumbled across ‘Snow Angels, Secrets and Christmas cake’ when I was looking for a few Christmas themed books to read in the run up to the big day. ( I LOVE CHRISTMAS!) 🎅🏽🎄☃and I fell in love with her wicked sense of humour. I laughed all the way through and told anyone and everyone that they had to read it.
I really enjoy reading about feel good subjects, love books thats I can relate to, so I tend to fall in love with well written descriptions of food, and also locations that give me that cosy feeling of nostalgia, sweets, summers on the beach, – the seaside, and all of these can be found by the bucketload in Ella’s ice-cream summer , which meant for me as a reader I was utterly seduced by the delicious storyline and the mouthwatering descriptions of the sweet strawberry gelato Ella serves in her adorable ice cream van.
This book is the epitome of light hearted, heartwarming feel good fiction and its just what the doctor ordered after a long day. Book one of the Ice cream cafe series is as lovely as its gorgeous front cover would suggest! Its funny, well written and as an Italian ice cream parlour owner who spends her days surrounded by the stuff- Sues descriptions are spot on, she evokes the creamy, cool deliciousness that is gelato on a hot summers day to absolute mouth watering perfection!
Needless to say I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! It picked me up from a slightly chilly spring evening and transported me into the bright skin warming sunshine by the sea where I was instantly captivated by her fun, likeable and utterly believable Ella, her eccentric mother ( who doesn’t know someone like her) and of course the little dog that most definitely has a more impressive wardrobe than me! The setting, the story line and the laugh out loud humour are all perfect. In fact it is Sues signature humour that has me giggling away throughout her stories and will have me rushing for the bookstore every time a new one is released!
If you love summer, or ice cream or as most of us do – both, then you must, must and in fear of repeating myself MUST buy this book which has a sequel (even more reason!), coming if you’re stuck in good old Blighty and want some summery feel good factor then this is for you, but if you’re lucky enough to find yourself on holiday then this is THE perfect holiday read- light, easy to read the story keeps you gripped and will leave you with the biggest smile on your face! Alongside the fun, frolics and gelato is a mystery, a deep rooted family rift that Ella is determined to get to the bottom of, I didn’t need a mystery to keep me turning those pages, but it definitely added an element of intrigue and excitement to the storyline.
This book is quite simply a big dollop of loveliness, dripping in feel good with a sprinkle of fun…
Now go, go, go grab these two titles now and dive into some summer fun that will leave you grinning from ear to ear. Thanks again Sue another perfect little piece of escapism, I can’t wait to devour ‘Curves, Kisses and chocolate ice cream’. The covers alone are good enough to Eat!!
